The interior
Paxos is an unbroken olive grove from one end to the other, and Magazia and its neighbouring hamlets sit in the middle of it, away from the summer traffic of the ports. The houses are stone, some with old presses and cisterns attached, and the roads between them are narrow. The west coast, with its cliffs and sea caves, is reached by short lanes from the village; the harbours of the east coast are a few minutes by car.
The market
This is where the traditional stone houses of Paxos come to market, some restored and some still to be done, along with plots among the olives where planning rules limit new building. Buyers here include British and Italian families who know the island well and prefer the groves to the quay.
