The peninsula
The peninsula's eastern shore faces the open sea and the mainland, its western shore faces Laganas Bay, and the road down its spine passes through scattered hamlets rather than a resort. Parts of the western side and the tip lie within the Laganas Bay marine park, where the zoning limits lighting and, behind several of the loggerhead nesting beaches, building. Zakynthos Town is a short drive north; the airport is on the far side of the bay.
