There is no village as such, only a scattering of houses in the olive groves behind the beach and villas on the slopes. It suits buyers who want Kassiopi's shops and harbour within a short drive but none of its summer traffic.

The bay
The beach at Avlaki is longer and more exposed than the coves further south, with the wooded Erimitis headland closing it to the east. Behind it the land is flat for a short way and then rises through old olive terraces, and the property stands on these terraces. Kassiopi, with its harbour, is a short drive away; Agios Stefanos lies on the far side of the headland.

Avlaki is thinly built. The Erimitis land beside the bay has been the subject of a long-running dispute over a proposed development, so it is worth asking a lawyer about its current status before buying nearby.
